The Vask Gallery

It’s been a while since my last post because I am in the middle of moving homes. Just last night I was invited to sample Vask’s Carluccio menu, a gastronomic, 14-course degustation. Though I was busy, I could not let the opportunity pass. My one regret is that I had to miss the last 2 courses, but I was quite stuffed! I hope you enjoy this photo-blog on the evening’s interesting and exemplary dishes.

Gostoso

Portuguese style barbecue has finally found a home in our midst – in Kapitolyo, Pasig. This area is booming with new restaurants and eateries. It is definitely to be considered when looking for a food stop!

Today, My sisters and I had an early photoshoot, which lasted well into the afternoon. As soon as the lines “it’s a wrap” were yelled, we packed up and headed to Gostoso, the brainchild of our friends Tatiana Olondriz and Pam Begre. Starving, we were all ready to sample everything they had to offer!

It is cafeteria style, you order at the window.  I love that the menu is right there, in your face so all you really need to do is select. I also love that they have one of my favorite beers – Super Bock and carafes of home brewed Iced Tea (which was delicious). I knew we were in for a yummy meal.

As soon as you sit on the table, there is a tempting bottle of chili staring at you. This is their secret recipe Piripiri sauce. I remember reading a post JJ Yulo had made saying he wanted to “swim in the sauce.” After seeing, smelling and finally tasting it, I understood why. The flavor of the chili was so prominent, without being too overwhelmingly spicy.

We started with the Bolsos, which is like a croqueta and had a nice crunch on the outside. We also sampled the Fries, which were thick-cur and seasoned really nicely with a spice rub.

For our main, we opted for the sampler platter with a half a chicken, pork and shrimp. This was really reasonably priced because it came with 2 orders of olive rice and 3 sides. We opted for the baked potato (like a gratin really), the pasta salad, the creamed spinach and ordered an extra mac & cheese. They were all good accompaniments to the barbecued meats but the olive rice really stood out. It was excellent and went so well with a heaping dollop of that piri piri sauce.

As I mentioned earlier, we feasted on this after a shoot. I waited to post this blog for the released of this issue because I am so honored to share this cover with my sisters. We really are the closest of women. We share a meal at the very least once a week. They are my pillars of strength and instant best friends. My life has been so blessed with them in it. To good food and a great family!
