Kettle’s Perfect Buttermilk Fried Chicken

I am definitely a lover of fried chicken… KFC, Chicken Joy, Chicken Mcdo, Max’s, Popey’s, Chicken and Waffles… You name it, I’ve had it over and over again. So you can imagine how excited I was to try Kettle, a newly opened comfort food restaurant in the East Wing of the Shangrila Mall that boasted of the best buttermilk fried chicken in the metro.

The menu selection lived up to the promise of comfort food – From hearty soups like French Onion and Clam Chowder to classic sandwich selections such as an Angus Roast Beef, a Reuben and a Shrimp Po’Boy and traditional desserts like Banana Cream Pie and Pineapple Upside Down Cake, there is something to bring out that sense of nostalgia in everyone.

We began our meal with something a little less traditional, the Baked Brie which came with a simple side salad. The pastry was flaky and the balsamic syrup was good, while the cheese was nice and melty when sliced into. So everything you would expect from this kind of a dish.

For our mains, we started with the Chorizo Vodka Pasta. This was alright but slightly underwhelming. I can see people who really like that smoked chorizo taste enjoying this dish though because though it is rich and creamy, the flavor doesn’t fade into the background. We followed that with the U.S. Angus Short Ribs which I really enjoyed. Tender beef in a rich sweet and spicy sauce that was bursting with flavor. I soaked the mashed potatoes in the sauce because I couldn’t get enough. The coleslaw was also a nice, fresh and cool accompaniment. All in all, a great dish. Lastly, I of course had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken which was divine. Perfectly crisp and tasty skin that enveloped the most succulent meat. This together with the honey glazed cornbread was completely delectable, only made better by their country gravy and beautifully sweet cajun honey. Though I was too full to sample their desserts, there is always a next time. Needless to say, I will definitely be returning to Kettle, sooner rather than later.
